Finally, a sit-down dinner
For the past few months, J and I have been going through the motions of a typical newly wed couple with too much on their plate. I am at work till 8pm, she is taking the train back from the city coming back around 8 or so and sometimes even later due to classes at NYU.Well, my parents are back for a few weeks visiting and they prepared a great dinner for us.
Along with our (asian staple) rice and soup, we had pan seared salmon with a soy, rice wine and ginger root sauce, pan fried okra and minced pork in garlic sauce, and broiled mullet roe (which happens to be a delicacy in taiwan and japan).
Mullet roe or "karasumi" is considered a rare fish roe and it just so happens that this year has been quite blessed with an abundance of healthy and fertile fish in the waters of taiwan. My father picked up the one we ate last night in taiwan. It weighed over 600 grams (never seen before). And boy was it good. We complimented the "karasumi" with some fresh daikon radish. And for drinks, we opened a bottle of "Koshi no Kambai" sake.
If you know anything about japanese sake, this is the Chateau Margaux of Japanese sake.
I watched a little bit of the olympics downhill and went straight to bed. (by the way, some of the women skiers and figure skaters are really good looking...ok.. that's my guy remark for the day)
Tomorrow is the beginning of my 3 day event. Feb. 17-19 Atlantic City, NJ
